About Ochota Barrels
Ochota Barrels is one of Australia's most celebrated natural wine producers, crafting vibrant, expressive wines from old vines in the Adelaide Hills with a minimal intervention philosophy that allows the land to speak. Founded by Taras and Amber Ochota, the estate produces some of the most sought-after bottles in the country — wines of genuine character, energy and soul that have earned a global following among natural wine enthusiasts.
Our Story
Founded by Taras Ochota and Amber Ochota in the heart of the Adelaide Hills, Ochota Barrels grew from a shared passion for wines of real character and minimal manipulation. Taras, trained as a winemaker in Burgundy and California, returned to Australia determined to make wines that tasted alive — fermented with wild yeast, handled without fining or filtering, and bottled with nothing but natural sulphur in trace amounts.
The estate farms a patchwork of old-vine sites across the Lenswood and Woodside areas of the Adelaide Hills, with particular focus on Grenache, Gamay, Pinot Noir and Syrah. The resulting wines are among Australia's most coveted, disappearing almost instantly on release to a devoted mailing list that spans every continent. Taras passed away in 2020, but Amber and the team continue his vision with extraordinary dedication — each wine a living tribute to a man who changed Australian winemaking.
